family friendly golf destinations

Want to enjoy a golfing getaway but can’t leave the kids at home? Why not visit one of these family friendly golf destinations?

Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa, Liverpool

Located in the heart of ‘England’s Golf Coast’, Formby Hall offers a warm welcome to experienced golfers, families and beginners.

This part of the country is famous for its Open venues, with the likes of Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool and Royal Lytham attracting thousands of golfers from around the world every year.

However, Formby Hall offers something a bit different. In addition to its 18-hole Championship course and nine-hole Woodhey Dunes – a popular spot for those on the Tommy Fleetwood Academy – there’s a health club, spa, and hotel. There are also numerous dining areas on site.

Whether you’re in search of a weekend break without the golf clubs, or you’re keen on taking up the game, Formby Hall is open to all.

Bovey Castle, Devon

Fancy a family golf trip to Devon? Well, at Bovey Castle you can book a luxurious Junior State room. Not a bad way to get your holiday started.

With 275 acres of Dartmoor National Park on its doorstep, Bovey Castle lends itself to adventure-seeking families – and it doesn’t disappoint.

There’s the chance to visit the deer park, go off roading or try clay pigeon shooting. Elsewhere, little ones are welcome at Bovey Bears Den Club, whilst those slightly older can discover more activities in Bovey Rangers.

The golf course was designed in 1926 by J F Abercromby and offers spectacular views of the valley.

Add flexible membership schemes to the mix, and it’s no wonder Bovey Castle is such an attractive option for golfers in Devon.

Slaley Hall, Northumberland

Slaley Hall is a sight to behold (as shown in the picture above) and is the perfect destination for a family break. It also welcomes your four-legged friends if you’re worried about leaving them behind.

Other big pluses include: a swimming pool with dedicated splash times; a family picnic hamper; golf classes; children’s activities; and a themed adventure trail around the expansive property.

As far as golf is concerned, Slaley Hall boasts two fantastic championship layouts – The Hunting and Priestman Courses. Both have hosted European Tour events and both pose a challenge to seasoned professionals and novices.

No matter how you play, Slaley Hall is fun for the whole family.

Dukes Meadow, London

Dukes Meadow in Chiswick is home to one of London’s best Play and Play par 3 courses.

It’s the perfect place to spend a few hours with friends and family, whether you’re golfing, playing tennis or learning how to ski.

There’s no doubting the stern challenge the nine-holer presents, for novices and single figure players alike.

Everyone is welcome here and new courses are always being created, from sports therapy to table tennis classes.

Goodwood, West Sussex

Amongst its many facilities, Goodwood offers expert coaching in a fun environment for children aged five upwards.

What’s more, at the Junior Taster Sessions, parents can also give golf a go. Many families have fallen in love with the game here, although it’s not the only attraction.

Famous for it’s Festival of Speed, Goodwood is a thrilling destination for petrol heads and motor enthusiasts.

At the same time, it’s a beautifully relaxing spot, one where you can enjoy afternoon, fine dining and spa treatments just as easily.

Something for everyone…

Ferndown Forest Golf Club, Dorset

What’s more, every Tuesday from midday it’s open for a Social Roll Up, when anyone can turn up for a relaxed game of golf and meet like minded players.

Once you’ve finished a round, where better to head to than the Forest Inn, a dog friendly country pub overlooking the 18th, to relive your round.

Ferndown Forest Golf Club

Rudding Park, North Yorkshire

Set in 300 acres of landscaped gardens and woodland, it’s little wonder Rudding Park is such a popular wedding destination.

It’s also a family friendly facility, and one which offers nine different types of golf membership, from twilight and juniors packages to full and premier seven-day offerings.

The Taste of Golf Introductory Membership (from £99) deserves a special mention.
