Golf major dates: 2025 tournament calendar

If we’re not playing golf ourselves, the next best thing is watching it, and watching golf doesn’t get much better than during the majors.

Though golf tournaments are held all year round, the majors are undoubtedly the most eagerly anticipated of the lot. The majors allow us a chance to catch the world’s very best players, all competing for glory against one another.

We’ve been treated to some simply iconic moments over the years, and 2025 is sure to be no different.

Men's golf majors

 

The Masters

Date: 10-13 April
Venue: Augusta National
2024 champion: Scottie Scheffler

The first major of the golfing calendar needs very little introduction, not least the 89th edition of the legendary Masters.

The famous course is kept in immaculate condition year-round, with some of the world’s best golfers descending on Augusta for what is always a thrilling showpiece.

And of course, the winner takes the coveted Green Jacket—one of golf’s most iconic moments.

US PGA Championship

Date: 15-18 May
Venue: Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club
2024 champion: Xander Schauffele

Next up is the US PGA Championship, which has been held at some of the best courses in the US over the years. In 2025, we head to Quail Hollow—the quintessential American course, with narrow fairways, thick rough, and speedy greens.

US Open

Date: 12-15 June
Venue: Oakmont Country Club
2024 champion: Bryson DeChambeau

The 125th US Open Championship is taking place at the historic Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.

The tournament has been held here a record nine times—soon, of course, to become ten.

The Open

Date: 17-20 July
Venue: Royal Portrush
2024 champion: Xander Schauffele

Northern Ireland’s esteemed Royal Portrush is the venue of choice for the 153rd Open Championship in July. The links course provides a true skill test to any golfer, and is the perfect way to round off the Major calendar.

Special mention: Ryder Cup

Date: 23-28 September
Venue: Bethpage Black    
Holders: Europe

Not one of the traditional golf major dates, but 2025 is, of course, Ryder Cup year!

The biennial Europe v USA event returns for its 45th edition at Bethpage Black, Farmingdale, NY, with Europe looking to make it back-to-back wins.

Keegan Bradley will lead Team USA, while Europe will be led once again by Luke Donald – the first time Europe have had the same captain for two consecutive Ryder Cups since our very own Bernard Gallacher back in the 1990s!

The Chevron Championship

Date: 24-27 April
Venue: The Club at Carlton Woods
2024 champion: Nelly Korda

The women’s golf major calendar kicks off with the Chevron Championship.

This tournament has been held every year since 1972, and as the first of the five women’s golf majors, it has become a real platform for driving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the sport.

US Women's Open

Date: 29 May – 1 June
Venue: Erin Hills
2024 champion: Yuka Saso

The US Women’s Open heads to Erin Hills, Wisconsin, for 2025, with Japanese golfer Yuka Saso the defending champion.

Established in 1946, the US Women’s Open is the oldest of all the women’s golf majors and is open to both amateur and professional female golfers. The tournament is a 72-hole stroke play event, meaning four rounds of 18 are played, with the player with the lowest cumulative score after four rounds taking the crown.

The Women's PGA Championship

Date: 19-22 June
Venue: Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco
2024 champion: Amy Yang

Like the US Women’s Open, the Women’s PGA Championship is also a 72-hole stroke play event. It was first held back in 1955, and is today considered the premier event for female golfers.

The Amundi Evian Championship

Date: 10-13 July
Venue: Evian Resort Golf Club
2024 champion: Ayaka Furue

The Amundi Evian Championship is typically the only women’s golf major tournament to be held in continental Europe. It is held at France’s Evian Resort Golf Club, a beautiful venue known for its views of the Alps and Lake Geneva.

2024 champion Ayaka Furue took home an increased prize fund of $8m.

The Women's British Open

Date: 31 July – 3 August
Venue: Royal Porthcawl
2024 champion: Lydia Ko

The Women’s British Open is one of the most prestigious tournaments in women’s golf, recognised by both the LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour.

Held at a different UK venue every year, it heads to Royal Porthcawl, South Wales, for its 49th edition—the first time the tournament has ever been held in Wales.
