Safety tips for golfers

Whatever level of golf you play, there’s are a number of risks associated with the sport. These could include things such as taking a shot which accidentally injures someone, injuring yourself while playing or having your equipment lost, damaged or stolen.

With such a myriad of risks, it’s crucial to protect yourself against them with specialist golf insurance. Here are some more specific examples of why it’s essential to protect yourself against the risks on and off the course.

Have you ever hit a wayward shot?

If the answer’s yes – and let’s be honest, we all do it now and again – then your next mis-hit could be very costly.

Not only could your next wayward shot strike a car or a building, it could even strike another golfer. Stray golf balls are an obvious hazard on the golf course and pose the most real threat to golfers and spectators.

Just look at what happened when Brooks Koepka mishit a shot at the 2018 Ryder Cup, or when amateur golfer James Gordon mishit a shot at his local course.

If you were to suffer a similar fate, you would need the appropriate cover to protect you from having to pay for the damages, which could be extortionate.

Despite what you may think, shouting “fore” is not enough to cover you if you hit someone. That’s why you need Public Liability insurance to cover you for injury to another person, as well as third party property damage.

Our specialist golf insurance provides you with up to £10m of Public Liability insurance, meaning you’re covered if a claim is made against you for the aforementioned incidents.

Have you ever injured yourself playing golf?

It’s not just the threat of injuring other golfers that you need to consider – there’s always the potential for other accidents.

We've seen many different types of incidents over the years, such as golfers who have been hit in the teeth by a back swing, fallen into bunkers and broken bones and golfers who have been run over by golf buggies.

Our research has found that an average 12,400 golf-related injuries require hospital treatment every year. With our specialist golf insurance policy Personal Accident cover means you could be compensated for up to £50,000 if you are ever seriously injured on the course.

How much is your golf gear worth to you?

As you’ll be all too aware, golf equipment doesn’t come cheap. A good set of clubs will set you back several hundred pounds at least.

When you add other equipment to the equation, such as waterproofs and electric trolleys, you’re spending thousands of pounds to play golf.

Like a lot of golfers, you'll most likely have collected your equipment over several years. When you’re on the golf course, you probably don’t stop to think about the sheer value of this equipment that you're carrying around.

However, if your golfing items were lost, stolen, or damaged, you could have to fork out potentially very large sums of money to repair or replace them.

Thankfully, Golf Care offers up to £7,500 of Equipment Cover to prevent you from having to do this. Our Equipment Cover protects your priceless golf gear against loss, theft and damage. Better yet, we’ll replace it on a New-for-Old basis if it’s up to three years old.
